Bantwal: A youth who had entered the Netravathi River to have a bath met a watery grave at Malaibettu in Sajipamunnur village on Sunday June 8. Three others accompanying him however were lucky enough to swim ashore safely.

The deceased is Naushad (20), son of Mohammad, a resident of Gandodi near BC Road. It is learnt, Naushad who had been to a relative’s house at Malaibettu had  decided to have a bath in the river along with his friends Naushal, Shabeer and Naufal. Sources say Naushad slipped into the river and the efforts of his friends to save him went in vain.  Locals who rushed to the spot on hearing their screams  though succeeded  in bringing Naushad out of the waters, he had breathed his last by then.

A case has been registered in Bantwal Town Police Station.
