Kasargod :A youth  met a watery grave while two others were rescued  by locals after they stepped into the  Shiriya lake  near Kumble Ichlangodu Kalbare on Wednesday June 18 evening in order to draw ashore a boat which was seen floating in the water.

The two rescued youth are Kalandar (22) of Herur Pacheni and Ibrahim (20) of Kajur. However another youth named Echu alias Yusuf (28), son of Andunhi, has been washed away and his body not yet traced.

It is learnt it was Yusuf who first entered the water at around 6.30 pm in order to draw the boat towards the shore. However, when he began to drown,  two others namely Kaladnar and Ibrahim  plunged into the water. Soon,  all three began to drown and locals rushed to teh spot  on hearing their scream. Two of the men were rescued while Yusuf was drowned.

The Fire service personnel, police personnel as well as local divers launched an intense search for the body of Yusuf but of no avail.

The deceased youth was a bachelor and had returned from Saudi Arabia just four months ago.
