Bantwa l: A woman who was married just eight months ago, has died under mysterious circumstances at Kanyana in Vittal police station limits on February 20, Thursday night. The suspicion is that the physical and mental torture of her husband was the reason for her suicide.

The deceased is Savitha (27), daughter of Uggappa Gowda of Hirebailu village in Moodigere taluk of Hassan district. She was given in marriage to Sunil, son of Sankappa Gowda of Kanichar in Kanyana  just eight months ago. The allegation is that Sunil used to physically and mentally torture her under the influence of alcohol.

Sources say she had attempted suicide late night on Thursday and was rushed to a private hospital in Puttur where she breathed her last. Her parents have now lodged a complaint with the Vittal Police blaming her husband and in-laws for their daughter’s death.

Injury marks have been found on the neck of Savitha’s body. Her parents suspect that she might have consumed poison and then hanged herself. Vittal police have said a thorough investigation will throw light on the facts.
