World Literacy Day celebrated at DK ZP

Mangalore:The world Literacy Day was celebrated at Nethravathi Hall of Dakshina Kannada Zila Panchayat today.


The programme was inaugurated by state minister for Health and  Family Welfare, Mr. UT Khader.

Mr. Khader in his inaugural address said “Through the various projects the state and the central governments intend to improve the lives of people. If the government projects are able to reach the most deprived section of the society, then there is the true development happening.”

He also said “It is a notable fact that the state which has higher literacy rate, has very high development index and the one with the lowest literacy rate has the similar development index.”

Before ending his speech Khader said “We have to encourage people who render their voluntary service to the society by literating people and I request the representatives of the Gram Panchayat to recognize and encourage such people.”

In prior to the formal stage program the “new-literates” shared their experience as how exactly they have been benefitted after they became literates and also presented two traditional dances which delighted eveyone presnt at the occasion.

DK ZP President Shri. Koragappa Naik, Vice-president Rithesh Shetty, Ombudsman of Mahatma Gandhi Job Guarantee project Shri Sheena Shetty, Secretary of District Literacy council Shri, GV Malleshappa and members of the Zila Panchayat were present at the occasion.

The program was jointly organized by District literacy council, Dakshina Kannada Zila Panchayat, Different NGO’s including Jana Shikshana Trust, Apna Desh, Sugrama Asoociations etc.
