Karkala: A labourer was killed instantly after he fell from the top of an electric pole while trying to provide electricity to the new building of the town municipal complex as he came in contact with a live feeder.
Subramanya Dondya (55) has been identified as the deceased. His body has been shifted to the taluk hospital.
Dondya was working for an electric contractor since seven years. Injuries to the head and profound bleeding are found to be the main reasons for his death. Locals alleged that the inhuman attitude by the contractor has led to his untimely death.
He leaves behind his wife, three sons along with a multitude of friends and relatives.
A case has been registered against the contractor Arun Sen citing negligence while executing the electric works.
The chief officer of the town municipal council has said that the TMC was not responsible for Dondya’s death as it was not aware of the works being carried out in its premises by the contractor on Tuesday when the labourer was killed. He added that the TMC had sought a new connection from MESCOM and written communication was on for a month’s period.
Reacting on his death, Shilpa an engineer with Mescom local office said, that the department was not responsible for Dondya’s death as he fell from the top of the pole and did not come in contact with the transmission line.
