Mangalore : Former union minister B Janardhana Poojari has clarified that the two women priests of Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra, Kudroli are on duty and not missing as reported in some media.
Speaking to reporters here on October 28, Monday, Poojari said the two priests were on ten days leave and were back on duty last week.
He clarified that there were no restrictions on the women priests in the temple and said they can even perform pooja in other places too.
On media reports that he took decisions on his own without consulting the temple management, Poojari said he took the decision to bring about a change for good and that none in the temple management opposed.
He said so far one woman has come forward to be a priest and that she is being trained. Poojari said he has also requested CM Siddaramaiah to appoint women priests, mainly widows in the government owned temples in the state.
Temple management committee members H S Sairam, Harikrishna Bantwal, Padmaraj were also present.
