Woman looted of Rs 11,35,000 on Matrimonial website

Karkala: Yet another case of cyber crime has come to light wherein a resident of Gandhi maidan at Karkala has been lured and looted of Rs 11, 35,000 in an online fraud.

The victim Dr K Lavanya Rao (41), an ayurvedic lady doctor by profession and the daughter of Nagesh Rao has been duped by a man named Ajmal through the Kannada Bharath Matrimony website.

As she was unmarried, she had registered herself on the website in the hope of finding a life partner in March this year. She met Ajmal, through the website and he proposed her for marriage on May 5, 2013.

Ajmal spoke to Dr K Lavanya Rao over the internet and the latter won her confidence.

Dr K Lavanya Rao alleges that Ajmal cheated her saying that he was supposed to get funds from the Qatar government but needed money to claim it as his father had recently passed away. He pleaded her to send the money.
 
Believing Ajmal, Dr K Lavanya Rao dispatched money to the several bank accounts held by Ajmal in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Noida, Bagalpur, Lucknow etc totally amounting to Rs 11, 35,000.

When Dr K Lavanya Rao felt suspicious about the same, as he ordered her to send more money she denied, on which Ajmal threatened over the internet to kill her.
 
Dr K Lavanya Rao has lodged a complaint with the local police station.

The police have registered a complaint under the IT Act 2008 and the investigation is still on.
