Mangalore : The Arogya Raksha Samithi meeting of the District Wenlock Hospital held on February 10, Monday resolved to prepare a proposal on upgrading the hospital into a Regional Government Hospital and then submit the same to the Government.



The meeting was chaired by DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai, District Surgeon Dr Rajeshwari Devi who addressed the meeting said presently patients not only from DK and Udupi districts, but also from Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Shimoga, Hassan and Bagalkote districts arrive at the hospital for treatment making it difficult for the hospital owing to shortage of resources.
She also explained that the 167 year old hospital building was leaking at places and that this has affected several medical equipment as well as electrical wiring. She said the hospital faced shortage of staff by 50 per cent in all departments. Even absence of proper under ground drainage and water supply has created problems, she said. The Distric Surgeon also drew the attention of the meeting towards the fact that there were around 30 patients who are residing in the hospital since five years despite getting cured, as they have nowhere to go.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, Moidin Bava, JR Lobo, MLAs, Corporator Vinayraj, Ladygoschen Medical Superintendent Dr Shakuntala and others attended the meeting.
