We must not be emotional with Yettinahole project : Harsha Moily

Mangalore: “The AICC has a different view and understanding towards the eligibility for Congress Primaries and I have no complaints with regards to the same”, said a hesitant Harsha Moily whose nomination for Congress Primaries has been rejected.

Addressing the media persons  during a press meet at the press club on Tuesday March 4, he said, “I truly appreciate the initiative of the Primaries, which is a pioneering effort of the party, its fair and transparent and portrays the Congress government as democratic.”

When questioned about re-appealing to the All India Congress Committee Harsha said, “I am awaiting a clarification from the AICC but I have not re-appealed to the AICC. I was eligible under the criteria – 3 of Congress Primaries Handbook to contest but due to some reason, I have still not been intimated on the rejection, I am only seeking clarification on the same.”

Elucidating it further, Harsha said that the criteria states that a social worker is eligible to contest. “I have been in the Management Committee of Mahatma Gandhi residential school that works for the progress of the children.Moreover, I have also been with the foundation called Moksha and have been with the Kisan Sabha Trust that tries to deliver towards the welfare of people,” he added.

“I have no complaints, though it is not the best way to start a political career.Still I am not disrupted but rather inspired to work harder and initiate a next line of leadership for the district. I plan to stay in Dakshina Kannada and work for the development for the people of the district”, he added.

Netravati Issue

Asked about the bundh observed on March 3 against Yettinahole project and also the issues faced by the people of Dakshina Kannada, he although tried to generalize the issue,  at the same time maintained said, “I am always for the betterment of the people.”

“The Yettinahole project has a lot of ambiguity, which needs to be sorted out. But the fact is that since the time it has come to light, the Netravati issue has been targeted adversely which is nothing but a political gimmick “, he alleged.

When questioned, why was the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certification for the project was avoided, he said, “I am not an environmentalist and cannot assert on the issue, but according to the reports read by me about the project I have come to a conclusion that there will be no harm for the people of Dakshina Kannada.”

However, trying to oversimplify the issue he said, “You need to have a proper balance between development and environment. It is not possible to  uplift both at the same time. Although I suggest that every point of view must be addressed and worked upon.”

When it was indicated that Union Minister Veerappa Moily is responsible for initiating the project, Harsha commented that the  project is not individualist and not restricted merely to Dakshina Kannada.

 Harsha Moily who has just become the primary member of the Congress four months ago  said in conclusion that it is necessary  not to be emotional to such things, but instead one must work towards development.
