Mangalore: “The Aam Aadmi Party is not a political party but a struggle of the common man to safeguard democracy and to fight to protect the interests of the nations”, said anti-corruption crusader S R Hiremath who is also the Convener of Samaj Parivartana Samudaya.

During an interactive session with the AAP members and party workers on Monday March 31, SR Hiremath touched upon various national, state as well as local issues.
He said, “If we need to uphold the Indian constitution, we ourselves need to change to implement change. I have fought for social justice for the weaker sections of the society since the past several years. I have also fought against corruption.”
“However I am not here to campaign but I understand and acknowledge the work done by Aam Aadmi and their fight”, he added.
Speaking about corruption, S R Hiremath who had accused Energy Minister D K Shivakumar of “facilitating one of the biggest House Building Cooperative Societies scams” in the State when he was the Cooperation Minister in 2002, also took on other leaders including former chief ministers SM Krishna and Yeddyurappa.
There was anger in Hiremath’s voice when he said that these political leaders are dripping in corruption.”Te national revenue is put at stake and the money which must be utilized for the public welfare is put at stake because of these ministers.”
Taking on BJP, he compared Modi to the British and said that his (Modi’s) mentality was like that of the England shopkeepers. He further accused the BJP as well as the ruling party Congress of being fraudulent.
Concluding his talk he said, “We have acquired democracy 66-years ago but the implication of a true republican society is still a dream. There are various forms of Law such as RTI and PIL that every citizen must acknowledge and make use of.”

Robert Rosarios’s query results in commotion : There was some sort of commotion at the venue when Robert Rosario, an expelled AAP office bearer, while referring to Hiremath’s fight for justice in the Nirbhaya case, wanted to know why the AAP which had initially joined the fight for justice in a rape case reported from the district, later withdrew after big political parties joined the movement. However, AAP members present at the venue started raising objections and this led to heated exchange of words. Hiremath however maintained his cool and answered this question politely. Rosario later left the venue on his own even as APP members tried to get him out.
