Mangalore: The giant waves at the Mallamar Beach near NITK, Suratkal claimed the lives of two youngsters on Sunday February 16.
The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Ashwin and his friend 22-year-old Sriram from Gokulnagar in Kulai.
It is learnt that a mighty wave washed them away as they were sitting on a huge rock on the shore. The incident took place at around 3 pm. Sriram was first washed.When Ashwin tried to save his friend he too drowned.
It is also known that a friend of the duo named, Muttulingam arrived at the beach to join his friends but could not find them. He said that the duo have called him mere 30 minutes ago to accompany them.
Local MLA Moidin Bava visited the beach and consoled the grief-stricken families of the two youngsters. Suratkal police have registered a case. Ashwin was the owner of Vighneshwara Earth Movers whereas Sriram was working in a private company.
