Ullal: With the differences between the Ullal Dargah Administrative committee members coming to fore, the Wakf official sealed and locked administrative committee gate on Thursday evening.
A section that opposed the move of the Wakf official pelted stones at him to retaliate against the step.
It is said that Haji Abdul Rashid was elected as the President of the Ullal Dargah Committee on the basis of number of supporters in the Jamat.
A meet was called for on Tuesday as the former president’s tenure had ended.
Recent past President U N Hamza, General Secretary U T Ilyas and Treasurer Mohommed had issued notices to all the 49 members and accordingly, on Tuesday 27 members had turned up. Recent past president U S Hamza and the Qazi were absent.
When the two did not turn up till 12 noon, the members of the Jamat grew impatient and insisted that the new committee be formed in their absence.
Sensing that the situation might go out of control, U T Ilyas contacted Hamza over phone and the latter suggested that the one having maximum supporters be elected as President.
With this logic, Abdul Rashid was elected President.
While everything fell into place, at about 6 pm, the Qazi reportedly held a meet in the Dargah and announced that Bukhari was the President and nine others have been elected to committee.
At this point some even told Qazi that the elections have already been done and as per the Wakf bylaws, a Qazi can participate only in religious matters and not in administrative matters.
When Qazi refused to relent, it caused commotion and acting on directions of the Commissioner Bajpe Inspector T D Nagaraj arrived at the spot.
With two factions being formed, situation only turned tense on Thursday. Elected President Abdul Rashid and his supporters said that Minister UT Khader was unnecessarily creating confusions after joining hands with the SSF.
Some even shouted slogans against Khader.
With the aim of putting an end to the chaos, Wakf Board Officer Abubakker locked up Dargah Administrative Committee office gate and sealed it in presence of the police.
