Vijay Diwas, observed in Mangalore

Mangalore: Honoring the victory of the Indian military over Pakistan in 1971 that resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh, Vijay Diwas was observed by the citizens in the town on Monday, December 16. Tributes were paid to the martyrs on the occasion.

The ceremony was organized by DK District Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Mangalore under the aegis of Lions Clubs International, District 317 D and Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust.

IGP of Western Range, Pratap Reddy in his address said, “The contribution  of the defence forces official render towards the country is immense and I am extremely grateful about it, I am proud of the Navy, Army and Air force in our country.”

Colonel N Sharath Bhandary, President of DK District Ex-Servicemen’s Association and Lion K C Prabhu, District Governor of Lions District 317 announced a sum of Rs 51,000 and Rs 1 lac respectively for the construction of a building for ex-servicemen, a project which is in the limbo.

Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, Chief Co-coordinator of Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust along with Dr Fakruddin Kunil also spoke on this occasion.

ZP CEO and interim DC Tulasi Maddineni, Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Karbikar, S M Airan, LT Colonel N P Pai, Colonel S R Ram and many others were present.
