Mangaluru: Durga Vahini, the women’s wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has called for the immediate arrest of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority Commissioner Mansoor Ali, who is accused of allegedly harassing a female staff member at his office. Swetha Adyapadi, the district convenor of Durga Vahini, issued a statement demanding the suspension of Ali from his post and warned of a protest outside the MUDA office if swift action is not taken against him.

The complainant, who reported the incident to the city police Commissioner, detailed instances of sexual, mental, and physical harassment by Commissioner Mansoor Ali, according to Adyapadi. VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell also emphasized the need for authorities to promptly initiate legal proceedings against the accused official.

Following the complaint from the woman, an outsourced typist at the MUDA office, the police registered a case under Sections 354 and 354 A of the IPC on Sunday. The investigation is currently ongoing, as stated by the police.

In response to the allegations, Mansoor Ali visited the Urwa police station on Monday to provide his statement to the investigating officer. Ali claimed that the woman filed the complaint out of personal animosity, asserting that he had asked her to submit a detailed report of the general body meeting of MUDA. According to Ali, the complaint was a result of him urging her to improve her work, with the implication that she might face removal from her position if her performance did not meet the required standards.
