Mangaluru:Durga Vahini, the women’s wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has called for the immediate arrest of Mansoor Ali, Commissioner of the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Ali is accused of allegedly harassing a female staff member at his office. Swetha Adyapadi, the district convenor of Durga Vahini, issued a statement demanding Ali’s swift suspension from his position. Adyapadi warned of a protest outside the MUDA office if urgent action is not taken against the accused commissioner.
The woman who filed a complaint with the city police Commissioner detailed instances of sexual, mental, and physical harassment by Ali, according to Adyapadi. VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell joined in urging authorities to promptly initiate legal proceedings against the commissioner.
In response to the woman’s complaint, filed by an outsourced typist working at the MUDA office, the police registered a case under Sections 354 and 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case is currently under investigation.
Mansoor Ali, the accused commissioner, visited the Urwa police station on Monday to submit his statement to the investigating officer. Ali claimed that the woman filed the complaint due to personal animosity after he requested her to provide a detailed report of the general body meeting of MUDA. According to Ali, the woman had initially submitted an inadequate report, and he had advised her to improve her work; otherwise, she might face removal from her position.
