Veteran Konkani writer Lancy Pinto Nayak no more

Mangaluru: Veteran Konkani writer and playwright Lancy Pinto Nayak passed away on Sunday, April 10.

Born on 13 Decemeber, 1955 in Kinnigoli, a small town near Mangaluru City, his first story was published in 172 in Mithr weekly. He had written over 200 short stories, 10 novels, 33 Konkani plays and over a 100 poems and articles.

‘Chedun’ won him the Late Louis Mascarenhas Birth Centenary award and ‘Patim Golpak’ won the Konkani Basha Mandal Goa in 1989. Karnataka Sahitya Academy ward and Late Louis Mascarenhas Birth Centenary award again in 1991. His popular drama ‘Airik Soirik’ won him the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy award and also Dr. T M A Foundation Book award in 1997.

He had released of his latest novel ‘Sukhidhad’ in a function at Mangalore University on April 7.

He suffered from brain hemorrhage and was admitted to a private hospital.

He is survived by his wife Jacintha, son Dagny Ian Pinto and daughter Daphny Ruweena Pinto.
