Mangalore: Residents of Pachanady in Mangalore who have been complaining since long regarding the unscientific waste disposal in the dumping yard in their area, on July 17, Wednesday lost their patience and decided to take up cudgels against the apathy of the Mangalore City Corporation.
They arrived near the MCC office at Lalbagh along with a garbage lorry of the MCC which they had seized and had planned to dump the garbage right on the road in front of the MCC office. However, the Barke police who arrived in the nick of time prevented them from doing so.
The residents of the area complained that the MCC had turned a deaf ear to their repeated appeal to ensure scientific disposal of waste. They also alleged that meat wastes were discarded in the open instead of burying them. This, they said created cleanliness problems in the area as stray dogs which picked the meat wastes then discarded them in the locality. They also said they now fear spread of dangerous diseases due to the unclean surroundings.
