Mangaluru: Unity Hospital in association with Mangalore City Corporation organized a free medical camp at Ashraya Colony, Pachanady, Mangalore on Sunday, June 18.

Free health check-up clinic were held at the camp with participation of doctors and staff from Unity Hospital for the benefit of the residents of Ashraya Colony .

The Medical camp commenced by invoking blessing of the almighty by lighting of the lamp. After this the Unity Privilege cards were unveiled at the camp which offers holders with monetary benefits on check-ups.

Area corporator and Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Kavitha Sanil visited the camp along with MCC commissioner Mohammed Naseer.

Speaking on the occasion the Kavitha Sanil said that it was her wish to organize a medical camp in her area and thanked Unity hospital for the same. “Nowadays owing to our busy schedule we fail to look after ourselves and at times small symptoms could lead to bigger disease, she said. She urged the residents of Ashraya Colony to use this medical camp to its fullest and not stay back at home saying they are healthy. She even asked the residents of Ashraya Colony to collect their health cards since it would help them in their treatments,” she said.

Mohammed Naseer said that this camp will help a lot of under privileged people in the society and such camps should be conducted more often. He concluded by congratulating and thanking Unity hospital for having such a platform for the residents of Ashraya Colony.

Speaking at the camp Dr.C P Habeeb Rahman, chairman and medical director of Unity hospital said that they had organized their first camp when the hospital had opened back in 1978. “After that we have conducted several such camps in villages to help the under privileged people and today is one such camp, he said adding that money is not everything, if you are healthy then you make money but if your health is not alright then what’s the point having such money,” said and advised the residents of Ashraya colony to give first priority to health than anything else.

Explaining the benefits of the health card Devraj, administrator of Unity Hospital, said the holders of the health card would get 20% redemption on OPD charges, 10% on medicines and 5% on any medical procedures. He even said that Unity hospital has tied up with the government in their scheme called Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust. Explaining the benefits of the scheme Devraj said that the holders of the BPL card can avail free treatment for most of the medical procedures while holders of APL card would get a discount of 70% from the government for the conditions such as heart problems, children etc.

Dr.Bharathi, Dr.Sachin Anand Rai, Dr.Alka Bhat, Dr.Sheehaab were among those present on the occasion.
