Ullal : Stagnated water, unbearable stench, mosquito menace and to couple with it filthy water gushing into houses whenever it rains. This is the pathetic state of affairs in Manchila area of the ward represented by none other than Razia Ibrahim, the Vice President of Ullal TMC.

The crux of the problem lies in the fact that a storm water drain which was located in the area since the past 50 years and was a boon to the around 200 families residing in the area, was closed when some people while constructing a house, cover the same with soil.
A local resident complains that everything was fine until five months ago when a person purchased nearly 50 cents land in the vicinity for construction of a layout. “In fact the works were initiated after the local councillor Razia Ibrahim and the land owner Nawaz took the neighbouring residents into confidence. But later we came to know that the storm water drain was covered with soil by them,” he complains.
During the recent heavy rains, the water has entered the houses in the area and one of the houses owned by Basheer is facing fears of collapse. Residents complain that the councillor was not receiving their calls to her mobile and so was the case with the land owner.
The water stagnation in the absence of side drain has also given rise to menace of mosquitoes giving room for fear of spread of contagious diseases.
It is learnt that a local Anganavadi teacher Swarnalatha was doing all duties of the councillor and has taken pains to intimate the TMC officials of the problems of the locals. It is said she also ensured removal of the soil dumped to the drain and has extended a helping hand to Manchila residents.
