Ullal attacks: Four more arrested, Sec 144 in place

Mangaluru: CCB police have arrested four people in connection with attack on innocent youth in Ullal three days ago.
Ibrahim Nafsan attack case: One nabbed-1Mangaluru City police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar at a press meet here on Friday at the commissioner’s office said that four accused, Rahul R, a plumber by profession from Krishnanagar in Thokkottu, Pavan Raj, a painter from Kapikad in Thokkottu, Edwin Rahul D’Souza from Pilar Laxmigudde in Kotekar, Karthik from Hanuman Nagar in Kumpala near Kotekar have been arrested.

Edwin and Karthik are PU and Diploma students respectively.

One of the accused Pavan Raj was earlier involved in 2015 Lancy D’Souza murder attempt case and was out on bail three months ago. Another accused Karthik was involved in robbery attempt case in 2015.

Commissioner further said, “All the four accused were arrested from B C Road bus stand who were directly involved in the attack. They had randomly picked few innocents and attacked them.”

Section 144 in Ullal

Meanwhile Mangaluru City police commissioner clarified on imposing prohibitory orders in the city, he said, “Section has been imposed across Mangaluru city, parring Panambur from 6 am on Friday to 6 pm on Saturday to prevent illegal processions and assemblies. The decision was taken after we had intimation that few organisations had planned processions.” he said.

He further added that most of the accused involved in these crimes are youth in their early 20s. “We have met community leaders in Ullal on April 27 to counsel the youth who are indulging in such criminal activities. We will also get trained counsellors for the purpose and we will contact NGOs for the same.” he added.

It may be recalled that on Monday, Ibrahim Hassan from Ullal was attacked by a group of miscreants while he was on his way to fishing port. One of the person involved in the case, Shivaraj alias Shiva was arrested earlier.

Hours after attack on Hassan, a group attacked catering workers Safwan, Saleem and Nizam. On Tuesday another youth Safwan from Kallapu was attacked.

The operation was carried out by team led by ACP Kalyan Shetty, CCB Inspector Valentine D’Souza and inspectors of Konaje and Panamboor stations.
