Udupi:State Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake has said that there were plans to give ‘Heritage Town’ tag to Udupi which is a pilgrimage centre.
Speaking after laying the foundation for the construction of 12 roads, one bridge and five rainwater drains under the second phase of Nagarothana scheme here on October 4, Friday, Sorake said the projects will be taken up at a cost of Rs 30 crore. He also informed that the government has already sanctioned Rs 170 crores for various developmental projects in Udupi city.
He said link roads in the town of Udupi will also be developed by spending Rs 48 crores under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) of the Union Government. All projects are being implemented keeping in view the needs of Udupi for the next 25 years. He also informed that there were plans to extend the jurisdiction of Udupi by including nearby villages. There are also plans to give the ‘heritage town’ tag to Udupi as it is a pilgrimage centre, he informed.
Of the 2100 buses which the state would get under the second phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), 69 will be provided for the coastal districts.
