Kasargod: The insensitivity of the cops in handling a bereaved family‘s protest against the lopsided probe Jishnu Pranoy ’s suicide drew ire from the people who extended their support to the bandh call given by United Democratic Front and BJP on Thursday April 6.

Reportedly, parents of Jishnu Pronoy, who committed suicide on his college campus in January were dragged along the ground by cops in Thiruvananthapuram for attempting a protest and indefinite fast against the police failure in booking the college officials, said to be guilty in the case.

While a case has been registered against five officials of Nehru Engineering College at Palakkad Pambady in abetting Jishnu’s suicide, one of the official was released on bail on Tuesday.

The bandh has received support of the people with most of the shops in the area were closed for business even government offices witnessed thin presence of officials. Buses too remained off the roads.

A protest march will be held by the UDF and BJP activists later in the day. Security in the area has been heightened to prevent any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, due to the ongoing yearly festival at Kumble as also a camp for endosulfan-affected people being organised at Kallar and Panathadi these gram panchayat limits have been left out from the purview of the bandh call.
