Mangaluru: The department of horticulture of Dakshina Kannada organised Honey and Organic Mela 2016 on Saturday, March 12 at Kadri Park.
Law Minister T B Jayachandra inaugurated the event at the presence of Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo, deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim and ZP CEO Shrividya. The mela will be held for two days.
T B Jayachandra addressing the gathering, said, “The state government will support organic farming whih has bright future and demand in the market. Along with government promoting organic farming, people also should accept it.”
When questioned about University Grants Commission (UGC) not renewing affiliation of the open varsities which are affiliated to universities of other states, he said, “A law will be formed soon according to which the open universities cannot be affiliated to universities of other states. As far as students who have already enrolled in different courses are concerned, we will disscuss and take necessary steps sort out the issue,” he said.
Honey and Organic Mela, has 25 stalls displaying sale of honey and honey products. The medicinal values of honey are also being highlighted at the mela.
The exhibition would be open from 10 a.m to 8 p.m. The entry will be free. The mela would also have a seminar-cum-training session on Sunday at 10 a.m. A training session on organic farming would be conducted on Sunday at 2 p.m.
