Two cattle lifters arrested in Suratkal

Mangalore: Two persons who were listed as wanted by the police, both were in connection with the several cattle theft cases reported in Suratkal area and other parts of the state, have been arrested by the Suratkal police.

Both are said to be belonging to a hi-tech gang of cattle thieves. Police are also looking out for more members of this gang.

Those arrested are Hussain Kabir alias Kabbi alias Bodda Kabbi and Jabbar Hussain. They were arrested near to Idgah Maidan in Suratkal on December 30, Monday. Police said they along with three others had brandished machetes and robbed a cow of good breed from the cattle shed of Mahadevi of Kaana and Beeranna Shetty of Mukka some time back.

In fact the thefts had sparked protests, in turn forcing the police to form a special squad to nab the cattle thieves.

The two have revealed that they used a Tata Sumo vehicle and stole cows from several places of the state including Hariharapura, Balehonnur and Koppa and used the sell the same to butcheries in Mangalore, Ullal and Bantwal. It is learnt, they had stolen a staggering 20,000 cows in the past seven years.
