Mangaluru: In a major breakthrough, the special team of Mangaluru City Police cracked down on the assailants of ASI attached to Urwa police station today. The accused had brutally attacked ASI Aithappa in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Police have arrested two miscreants in this connection and also seized the bike used in the attack. The accused have been identified as Sameer Katipalla (28) and Niyaz (20).A habitual offender, Sameer released on bail just 11 days ago, is also accused in the rape of a Deralakatte medical student under Konaje police station limits. 

Aithappa, was attacked with rods on Wednesday at 3:30 am while he was plying on his bike on duty, by two masked bike-borne assailants. With severe head injuries, Aithappa was rushed to a nearby hospital.
