Tuskers Journey to begin on Aug 28 for Dasara Utsav

Mysore: The preparations are underway to stage the world famous Dasara celebrations in the city. The illuminating city buildings, renovations etc are begun already, while all these are adding to the beauty of city for colorful celebration of Dasara Utsav.

The key attraction of Dasara begins with tuskers’ journey on Wednesday August 28.  The Dasara celebrations get a fillip with the first group of tuskers arriving from different camps at the palace grounds.  The tuskers’ group will enter the city in two stages, while the first group will begin its journey from Nagapura ST School compound, Veeranahosahalli, Hunsoor taluk at 11.00am on Wednesday August 28.

The district-in-charge minister V Srinivas Prasad will offer motion for tuskers’ journey.

PWD minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, ZP president Kaup Siddaveerappa, MP H Vishwanath, R Druvanarayan and local MLA will be the chief guests of the occasion.

Tusker Arjun to lead Dasara Utsav

The tusker Arjun will be leading Dasara Utsav this year too and grand elephantine show.  A tusker – Durgaparameshwari from Dakshina Kannada district is the new entrant to partake in tuskers’ rally.  Forty-three-old Durgaparameshwari has been brought from Pilikula to Biligiriranganabetta, while her three-month-old calf is let in the care of Titimati tuskers’ training camp.

Other tuskers – Sarala from Balle camp, Balarama from Titimati camp and Gajendra from K Gudi – Biligiriranganabetta camp will join Arjun in the journey that will begin on Wednesday August 28 and enter the city by evening on same day.  The tuskers will be accorded traditional welcome at the palace on Friday August 30.

The tuskers’ second group will arrive in the city before 3 weeks ahead of Dasara.  The tuskers – Srirama, Gopalaswamy, Vijaya, Vikrama, Harsha, Durgaparameshwari, Gopi and Prashant are included in this group.
