Tuluvas insist Mangaluru Airport to be named Tulunadu International Airport

Mangaluru: Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkoota during the valedictory function of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba 2014 to demanded the Ministry of Civil Aviation to rename Mangaluru International Airport into ‘Tulunadu International Airport’.

The demand was made on the third day of World Tulu Festival held in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at Sahyadri Campus in Adyar here on Sunday on December 14.

Moreover they also said that the process of inclusion of Tulu in Schedule VIII of Indian Constitution should be expedited.  For this purpose, they demanded the state government to set up a high level committee headed by chief secretary, to make an appropriate decision on the same.

Addressing the importance of Tulunadu they also brought up several issues in the resolution such as objections to Yettinahole project, hazardous industries, revoke ban on Kambala, introduction of Tulu as third language in the curriculum of primary and high schools in Undivided Dakshina Kannada district, etc.

The organisers of Tuluvere Parba including honorary president D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, were planning to hand over the resolution with demands to chief minister Siddaramaih.

However, the CM, who was supposed to be the chief guest at the valedictory of the fest, remained absent citing health reason. Following this, the resolution was handed over to minister for forest, environment and ecology B Ramanath Rai.

A C Bhandary, convener, Vishwa Tulu Parba, read the decisions taken at the convention and handed over a copy to the state government through minister Rai.

Earlier a splendid ceremony showcased the essence and beauty of Tulu culture and tradition.

Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math delivered the valedictory speech. He spoke on the importance of the language ‘Tulu’ and also said that tradition will prevail only if we preserve our culture, language, and this land. Dr Veerendra Heggade, presided over the programme.

On this occasion, state ministers Ramanath Rai, Abhaychandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dharmapal U Devadiga, Janaki Brahmavar, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Roy Castellino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, and B A Mohammed Haneef, president of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy were present.

Huge crowds seen at Vishwa Tuluvere Parba on concluding day

The concluding day of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba on Sunday saw thousands of people enthusiastically participating in various events.

Friday and Saturday were damp days, both in terms of weather and turn out at the Parba. On Sunday, the skies turned sunny and revived the spirits of the Tuluvas who thronged the venue to partake of its many attractions,  including exhibitions, demonstrations, traditional sports and the boating.  In the bargain, academic sessions got short shrift.

from across the State, as well as the neighboring Maharashtra and Kerala and those residing abroad participated in the Parba on Sunday at the Sahyadri College grounds.

A large audience was seen during the presentation of the Tuttavita, Bale Telipale, Tuluvere Isiri and other cultural activities on the main stage. Local sports such as wrestling — which commenced by evening on the ground bordering the Netravati — and Kabaddi, rope pulling too witnessed heavy patronage. Hundreds of participants also enjoyed boating on the Netravati.

The Parba also caused a semi traffic jam on Sunday, on the Mangaluru – Bengaluru Highway near the Sahyadri College.  Traffic police and volunteers had to struggle hard to ensure vehicles were parked properly even as they had a herculean task to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the highway.
