Traffic wardens feted for their exemplary service

Mangaluru: Traffic wardens who have been serving on the ever-chaotic roads of Mangaluru through Traffic Warden Squad were felicitated on Wednesday during a programme held at the Police Commissioner’s office.
Addressing the gathering Joe Gonsalves, chief traffic warden said over the last nine and half months, the traffic warden squad has been doing its bit, but there is lots more to be done. “With the traffic increasing drastically, there is a need to increase the traffic wardens’ strength too,” he said.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar said that the work done by the traffic wardens has been marvelous and that more and more people must come forward to join the squad. Humbly, the Commission recalled the efforts of former Commissioner Murugan who started the Traffic Warden Squad in Mangaluru.

Traffic wardens- Francis Moras, J Mohammed and Mohan who helped in saving the life of a accident victim were felicitated.

Michel D’Souza, NRI entrepreneur said that irresponsible driving, narrow roads and bad condition of roads, which are causing mishaps on roads and the traffic police may not have enough number of personal to handling the increasing number of cases. “The Traffic Warden Squad is a great concept that can help the traffic police as well as citizens,” he said.

Roshni Nilaya Retired Professor of Criminology Dr Ashok, Arjun Rai, head of NGO, Anti pollution drive and Violet periera, Journalist, ACP Uday Nayak, ACP traffic Tilak Chandra among others were present.
