Ullal : A trench that was laid to facilitate construction of a drain on the main road  at Tokkottu Junction, resulted in a traffic snarl with long queues of vehicles seen on either side on Thursday May 22 morning. The traffic blockade in turn  inconvenienced many office goers as well as people  who had to attend functions and were in a haste.

Sources said though the authorities had closed the trench laid on Wednesday night, soon after, the heavy rains that lashed the area, loosened the soil , resulting in the re-appearance of the trench after a heavy vehicle passed through it. Vehicles  were seen in a queue upto two kms on either side. Particularly those heading towards the airport and railway station were put to great trouble.

As if the existing problems were not suffice, a  speeding bus rammed against an Ayurveda  Massage Centre  located adjacent to  the  narrow road where one-way traffic was permitted. Two passengers were injured in the mishap. The accident made things worse . The bus driver meanwhile fled the place fearing public ire.

With traffic still not restored to normalcy, Ullal  police and Home Guards  are striving their level best to regulate the traffic and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.

It is worth mentioning here that  traffic blockades were not as severe as in the past in the area as  two-way traffic was permitted on a newly laid road  to avoid the inconvenience   caused due to the Tokkottu fly-over works. Thursday’s traffic snarl was mainly due to the digging of this road.
