Udupi : A few tourists from Rajasthan who were staying in a lodge in Udupi, have reportedly robbed a cash of Rs 2000 from the cash drawer after befriending the receptionist and offering him a laddu laced with sedatives, recently.
It is learnt, five men from Rajasthan were staying in the lodge since August 17 saying they had come on a tour to the temple town. During the course of their stay they maintained a close rapport with the lodge staff, receptionist and room boys and used to chat with them during their free time.
On August 21 night at around 11.15 pm, they approached the receptionist and offered him a laddu saying the son of one of them had got a job in Rajasthan. The receptionist who was unaware of their ulterior motives ate the laddu and soon fell asleep. It was only in the morning that it came to light that the strangers had opened the drawer and robbed a cash of Rs 2000 in it. Luckily, the owner of the lodge had taken all the cash the previous night.
Though there is a CC Camera in the lodge, the strangers had taken care to cover it with the receptionist’s shirt. A complaint however is not lodged. But the lodge owner has said he will co-operate if the police will take up a voluntary probe by providing the CCTV footages which shows the movements of the strangers in the lodge during the stay there. The lodge owner has said he was not registering a complaint as the stolen amount was less.
