Puttur : A successful and timely operation by the officials of the Department of Women and Child Welfare of Puttur, have helped in averting a child marriage in the taluk on Sunday May 26.
The marriage of Mubina Banu daughter of Abdul Hameed and Jameela Banu of Puttur Bannurguttu was scheduled to be held with Tahir of Kambalabettu at the Bannurguttu residence of the bride. But, the officials on gathering information that he girl was a minor and had not completed 18 years of age, raided the place under the leadership of Assistant Child Development Project Officer Shanthi Hegde. The officials later got the parents of the girl sign a bond that they will not get their daughter married off before she attained 18 years of age.
Anganavadi Assistant Jalakjashi V, Mudara N, Headmaster of Haradi Higher Primary School, Jayashree, Inspector in Puttur town police station and other staff were part of the raiding team.
