Mangaluru/Riyadh: Eleven people including four from Mangaluru were killed in a fire that broke out at a petrochemical factory in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, media reports said.
Baskar Bajpe, Vincent Nirmarga, Ashraf Haleyangadi, Balakrishna Poojari Vamanjoor from Mangaluru, Daniel Kerala, Jolan Filipino, Mohammed Ibrahim, Karthik Sanil Krishnappa, Ashish Kumar Singh, Martin Filipino, Lijon Kerala are the deceased.
Deeraj Manjeshwar, Rayan Filipino, Athik UP and Amrit Nepal and Saeed Kavoor have been shifted to ICU of Al Mana hospital and Mowasat hospital.
Nithin Venur, Yathish Ullal, Ayyub Farangipete are said to be out of danger and are undergoing treatment at Al Mana Hospital. Abhilash Niddodi who suffered minor injuries is admitted to Royal Commission Hospital.
The spokesperson of the Royal Authority of Jubail district said the fire occurred at 11.40 a.m. during routine maintenance, Xinhua reported citing Saudi Press Agency.
The spokesperson attributed the deaths to suffocation because of smoke inhalation.
The Saudi civil defence personnel and fire fighters managed to extinguish the blaze after 10 minutes.
