Thieves loot house and kidnap mentally challenged girl

Bantwal : In a case of robbery which took place near the National Highway 75 at Maripalla in Farangipete, thieves broke into a house and looted cash and jewellery, but  also callously took a mentally ill girl who was in the house and left her in an isolated place at night.

The house belongs to Mariyamma who stays with her children including a 14-year-old daughter  and sister Zubeida while her husband is in abroad. It is learnt that on the night of Wednesday March 5, around 10 pm the thieves kidnapped Mariyamma’s daughter and abandoned her in the night hours. They  also stole cash and jewellery worth Rs 95,000 from the house.

As per the complaint filed by the family, the thieves looted two gold chains weighing two sovereigns, and Rs 15,000 in cash.

It is said the mentally and physically challenged girl, who was witness to the theft, was taken by the culprits towards the highway. They also threw stones at a house there before fleeing the spot. The people of that house who woke up to the sound, heard a girl weeping. They alerted the neighbours and after a search, the girl was found.

Meanwhile, Mariyamma’s family informed the police about the theft. A case has been registered in Bantwal rural police station.
