Mangalore:The Bishop of Mangalore Most. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’souza installed the Relic of the Holy cross of Jesus in the Holy cross church of Kulshekar today.
The Bishop installed the Relic in the newly built Holy Cross Chapel of the church.
Before the installation the Vicar Jeral of Mangalore Diocese Msgr. Dennis Moras Prabhu inaugurated the Holy Cross Chapel.
Earlier the Relic was brought alter of the Kulshekar church in the procession and later after handing over the decree of the Relic to the Parish Priest, the Bishop installed the Relic in the Chapel.
It is a land mark in the history of the Kulshekar church which is celebrating 100th year of its Institution this year.
Now the Relic is open for the visitors for Adoration and personal prayers.
The relic is in the form of a small cross which basically taken from the Holy cross of Jesus installed in Rome.
Historical background of the Relic:
In the year 312AD because of the Faith on the Holy Cross of Jesus, the Roman King Constantine was victorious in one of the battles. So in the year 326 AD to find the Holy Cross of Jesus, he sent his mother St. Helen to the city of Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. She could find various crosses of similar shape and size. Then she was given a news that when a lady touched one of the crosses she had cured from her sickness and later it was confirmed to the holy cross of the Jesus Christ.Later the cross was installed in the Church of Sepulcrat in Rome.
Later in an attempt to demolish the monuments of Christianity the Persians took the holy cross to their country and in the year 629 AD the King Heraclius regained the Holy cross back and it was re-installed in Rome.
Later it lead to the wide-spread of the devotion of the Holy Cross and today a part of the Holy cross(Relic) is Installed in the Holy Cross chapel of Kulshekar church.
