Mangaluru: Immigration officers of Mangaluru International Airport detained a 41-year-old Munaf Rehman based on a lookout circular issued by the Kerala Police recently on suspicion that he was going to join the ISIS. The man who was handed over to the National Investigation Agency, was later released by the sleuths on lack of evidence against him.
Rehman was getting on to a plane scheduled to fly to Sharjah to allegedly join the ISIS.
Munaif Rehman is originally from Thalassery in Kerala and was residing at ‘Kent’ apartment on Old Kent Road in Mangaluru. Rehman ran a crockery business in Kerala and Karnataka. He was residing in Mangauru for the past five years with his wife and five children.
Police sources said that Rehman was caught after a lookout circular was issued on him and was caught while boarding 9W 504 Jet plane which was supposed to fly to Sharjah. Rehman quoted that his wife’s sister Ashika is living in Sharjah and he was flying there to meet her.
On further interrogation, Munaf revealed that he wanted to fly to Tokyo after he was asked by one Fajida Vadagere to join the ISIS.
Concerns are being raised over the possible link of Kerala youth with the ISIS recruiters. It is believed that as many as 23 missing youth from Kerala have left homes to join the IS.
