Mangaluru: The folk art of Yakshagana and Bayalata have been an integral part not just in the Tuluva lives, but also in their belief system. It is not a surprise to know that people vow to stage Bayalata performance in honour of the deities when their prayers are answered. The artists paint to perfection to depict the mythological characters and in shimmering night lamps, they dance gloriously to narrate to the audience various episodes from the pages of mythology.
In sync with the belief, a special Yakshagana Bayalata programme will be held on December 29 at Mannagudda wherein the famous episodes of ‘Devi Mahatme’ will be staged in honour of Goddess Durga.
The play will be organised by ‘Team Modi’ (former ‘NaMo Brigade) with the aim of seeking Goddess’ blessings and benevolence to ensure victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming Parliamentary polls. The expense of the show will be shared by the members of ‘Team Modi’.
The Team Modi’ wanted the Kateel Mela, affiliated to Kateel Durgaparameshwari temple to stage the bayalata. However, initially it so seemed that the famous troupe could not take up the project as all the six troupes of Kateel Mela are booked for the next 20 years. But, in turn of events, the family which had booked the Kateel Mela for December 29 was forced to cancel the show due to some inauspicious occurrence in the family. The Team Modi seized the opportunity and booked the famous troupe to stage Devi Mahatme.
Mangaluru unit Head of Team Modi Naresh Shenoy told Newskarnataka that it has been a wonderful start already. “Looks like Mother Durga has already blessed our Prime Minister. Otherwise how would she make sure that our hope of getting Kateel Mela to perform the show worked out so smoothly,” Shenoy said adding that Modi’s work itself will do wonders for him and bayalata is only a means to seek Mother Durga’s blessings so that the PM gets the strength to face all the odds with courage.
As the poll fever is slowly catching up, followers of Prime Minister Modi have been hitting headline. It was only recently that a couple had printed on their wedding card that the guests could present the newly wed couple a precious gift by casting their vote in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
