
Mangaluru: The Mangalore Catholic Co-operative Bank Limited (MCC bank) went in for a crucial election today to elect its 13 directors. The team led by Anil Lobo Fermai – Valencia has emerged victorious with Anil Lobo getting the highest number of 3793 votes in general category. Other members of his team who won with majority are: Dolphy Joseph Patrao – Milagres (3389 votes), Joseph Anil Patrao – Derebail (3502 votes), Marcel Mathew D’Souza (Maccha Milar) – Rosario (3344 votes), Elroy Kiran Crasto – Gangolli (3390 votes), Andrew D’Souza – Paladka (3503 votes), J P Rodrigues – Puttur (3426 votes), Jerald Jude D’Silva – Miyar ( 3410 votes), David D’Souza – Bajpe (3301 votes), Herald John Monteiro – Kelarai (3191 votes), Roshan D’Souza – Mudipu (3401 votes), Dr Freeda Flavia D’Souza – Balkunje (3669 votes), Irene Rebello (Kateel) – Kulshekar (3973 votes). The election is held once in five years, where 11 general and 2 women reserved directors are elected for the bank. The new directors will be heading the bank for the term 2018-2023.
This election was the centre of attraction, mainly because of the aggressive campaigning done by both the teams, one led by the bank’s current Vice Chairman Alwyn Patrao and the other led by the current Director Anil Lobo. Both the teams had a mix of experienced and young candidates, who ran a thorough campaign to woo the voters. Out of the 25,938 eligable voters, 6,577 (25.35%) shareholders cast their votes at St. Aloysius High School, Hampankatta, Mangaluru.
Team Alwyn Patrao had Lion Dr. Neri Cornelio – Milagres Udupi, Dr. John Clerence Miranda Kirem – Kinnigoli, Lancy D’Cunha – Bondel, Peter Antony Pinto – Urwa, Joseph Michael Pereira (Joe Pereira) – Shirthady, Santhosh D’Souza – Bajpe, Manoj Xavier Dais – Puttur, Jackson Eric D’Costa – Vamadapadavu, Elroy Patric Saldanha – Omzoor, Mauric Monteiro – Permannur, Dr. Laveena D’Mello nee Noronha – Kulshekar and Constance Carmelita Saldanha (Cony Teacher) – Bejai as its member candidates but were unable to win a single seat.
