Teacher’s can prevent communal clashes in the city

Mangalore: When there are communal clashes in the city, it is the teacher’s who can prevent it from worsening the situation by talking to both the parties. When the Deputy Commissioner calls for an emergency meeting of politicians and police during communal fight, I tell the host to call even the teachers of the area to participate, said MLC Ivan D’Souza.

He was speaking at Teacher’s day celebration hosted by DK zilla panchayat and Public education department here in Town Hall, Mangalore on Friday, September 5.

He said that during such outbreak, those who involved in the communal clash do not listen to the police or the politicians, but they will certainly listen to their teachers, who taught them, he said addressing a number of teachers present at the occasion.

He also said that there are 6 lakhs post of teachers vacant in the state.

In his presidential address, J. R. Lobo, MLA said that India cannot be built with agriculture alone. Human resource is another important factor. For this, education is must and the teacher’s have a big role. We spend a lot of education, but problem exist, he said.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP said that our country has a tradition of respecting teacher’s the most. For a great nation, the contribution of teacher’s is must. And, it is not possible only by politicians. The present education system is introduced by Lord Macaulay. But, the system has become commercial and this should be stopped, he said.

Mahabala Marla, mayor said that today we hear a lot of wrongdoings committed by teachers. This should not happen, he said.

As many as 53 retired teachers were felicitated at the occasion. Raghav D., retired teacher and Herald M. Monteiro, retired headmaster of Milgres School spoke on the occasion.

Raghav said that there are schools with only few teachers. “We were only three teachers in school who had to manage 1 – 7 classes daily. Such problem exists even today, he said.

The programme witnessed one hour long Yakshagana and other cultural programmes. Certificates were distributed to those schools which received 100% results in the SSLC exams. Vasudeva Rao and Raghav D., were honoured for receiving district Best Teacher’s award.
