Tanker Overturns at Nelyady, Fire Fighters Rush to Cap Leakage

Puttur(Dakshina Kannada): As the recent gas tanker tragedy at Perne, near here is fresh in the mind, wherein 10 people died of severe burns; another LPG tanker was overturned across the Mangalore- angalore National Highway 75 at Nelyady, near here on Saturday June 1.

The moderate rains have arrived throughout from Friday night till Saturday early morning. The tanker was overturned on the highway and gas began to leak from cargo hold. The fire brigade reached on the spot and began safety precautions. The safety officers of the HPCL are yet to arrive at the spot.

It may be recalled that ten people died of severe burns when a LPG tanker overturned besides the highway at Perne, near this place in the month of April. The fire also engulfed the nearby houses. Despite the major tragedy, the long haulers are recklessly driving on extremely slippery highway.  The people living along the highway are apprehensive over recurring incidents and urge the district administration to take early actions in this regard.
