Mangaluru: The city’s own multi-specialty hospital, A J Hospital and Research Centre inaugurated their symposium on heart related treatments at their campus on January 7. “Spectrum 2017-The ‘Symposium on Cardiovascular Therapies and Research Updates – Mangalore” saw an array of cardio doctors from various parts of the country to speak about treatment of heart issues.

Several experts in the field of cardiovascular healthcare gave their expert opinions to the audience regarding various new treatments to certain heart ailments. During the symposium, case studies on heart patients and how they were cured was discussed by the speaker and moderator.
Speaking on the occasion after inaugurating the symposium, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Dr. K S Ravindranath mentioned the need for healthcare in rural areas. “Rural healthcare must be given priority since the people living in rural areas are not getting the required amount of care. Every year, nearly 6,000 doctors graduate from Karnataka but the 6200 primary health centres do not have a dedicated doctor”, he added.
Speaking about insurance being the need of the hour, he said, “In order to make healthcare available and affordable to rural people, health insurance must be introduced to each person so as to make them avail special benefits.”
Shedding light on the modern day heart related problems, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research, Dr. C N Manjunath said that regular exercise can stop all ailments. He also went on to say, “As much as 52 percentage of Indian population suffer from ‘sitting syndrome’ which can cause heavy cardiovascular problems. These problems can be eliminated or reduced by spreading awareness through physicians, word of mouth and media.”
Chairman of A J Shetty Institute of Medical Sciences, A J Shetty mentioned that rural healthcare is very important to see a developing nation. Organising Chairman Dr. B V Manjunath, Organising Secretary Dr. R Purushottam, Dean of A J Institute of Medical Sciences Dr. Ashok Hegde, external observer Dr. Nithish Bhandary and Senior Endocrinologist from Sriniagar Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar were also present on the occasion.
