Mangaluru: The Surathkal police have arrested five persons belonging to two different communities on Tuesday, in connection with a clash that broke out between two groups in Janata colony in Surathkal on Monday night.
The police said that two cases have been registered in this regard and they have launched a search for a few more persons who were involved in the clash.
It may be recalled that on Monday night a clash broke out following a heated exchange of words between neighbours after a goat from one family ate wheat that was left to dry in the house of the other. There was an exchange of blows resulting in injury to nine persons. The injured were admitted to two different hospitals.
Meanwhile, members of saffron outfits led by Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Satyajit Surathkal picketed Surathkal police station on Tuesday late evening in protest of the clashes that erupted in Janata Colony. Satyajit had alleged that the police were favouring one community.
