In Mangaluru, the Supreme Court’s decision to halt board exams for Class V, VIII, and IX in the state has thrown state-affiliated schools into confusion. With exams for Classes VIII and IX required to be completed before SSLC examinations begin, officials are urging the government to devise an alternative plan swiftly. The SSLC exam is slated to start on March 25 and conclude on April 6, adding urgency to the situation.

Venkatesha Subraya Patagara, DDPI of Dakshina Kannada, expressed the need for a prompt government decision, stating, “We are expecting a government decision on this in a day or two. It will help us make the necessary arrangements.”

While there are no concerns regarding Class V examinations, the clash between Class VIII and IX exams with the SSLC exam poses a challenge. Many high school teachers are involved in SSLC examinations, with some schools serving as exam centers. This overlap complicates the conduct of exams.

A senior teacher proposed a solution, suggesting that since question papers for the examinations are already prepared, schools could be directed to conduct exams at their level using these papers. This would alleviate the burden on students and teachers.

Regarding the completed question papers, a BEO commented that they are straightforward with application-level questions. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The academic year ends on April 10. The government must decide on conducting exams for classes V, VIII, and IX at the earliest, or it will lead to chaos.”
