Sullia girl to represent India in shot put at Asian Youth Games,China

Sullia: Namitha, a second PUC student at Alva’s College, who hails from Kollamogaru a remote village of Sullia has made her village and district proud by qualifying  for the Asian Youth Games scheduled to be  held at the Olympics Stadium at Nanjing, China from August 16 to 25.

Namitha  who is the daughter of Kushalappa Gowda-Pushpavathi Couple qualified for the event after she recorded 13.56 meters in shot put at the National Youth Games held at Kerala. Namitha already has several awards and records to her credit by participating in state and national level events. She has to her credit two state level records in shot put in the 14 to 16 years category. In the Junior Athletics event held at Shimoga recently, she  recorded a distance of 13.13 meters.

Her coach is Rajeev, Physical Instructor of Alva’s College where she was admitted under sports quota. She is an Alva’s student since eighth standard.

With no government help coming in the way of this talented athlete, Namitha hopes the government would recognize her talent and extend aid to her.
