Sullia: Dr Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda, Founder President of the Academy of Liberal Education, Sullia is no more. Gowda who was ailing breathed his last at his residence here on August 7, Wednesday. He was 78 years of age.
Dr Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda was an outstanding educationist who was instrumental in converting the small town of Sullia into an educational hub.Today, his Academy has over 50 educational institutions in Bangalore, New Delhi and other places besides Sullia. Institutions right from primary schools to technical, ayurveda, dental and medical colleges are functioning under the umbrella of Academy of Liberal Education.
Dr Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda was also known as an able administrator and philanthropist. He was also the recipient of number of awards including an Honorary Doctorate from Florida University, Rajeev Gandhi Ekta Award, Parisararatna Award, Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, American Medal of Award and Nepal Friendship Award among others.
