Bantwal : This is the success story of  two brothers whose life and achievements are synonymous to hard work, will power and commitment.

A Ph.D degree to rural youth is itself a wonder. And what’s more  the matter gains more significance,  if two siblings  do their Ph.D thesis and are awarded Ph.D degrees  at the same function.  S Kunhappa and Avvabi couple hailing from Seranthipura near Vittal are the lucky couple who have two bright sons who have made them proud  by receiving their doctorate degrees  during the Mangalore University Convocation held recently.

The talented youngsters are Ismail, Assistant Professor in Physics at MIT and Samshuddin, Assistant Professor in Chemistry at Alva’s College, Moodbidri.  Ismail  did his Ph.D thesis entitled ‘ Micro Structural Studies in Electron Irradiated  Polymers’ under the guidance of Dr V Ravindra Achar, Professor in Physics, while Samshuddin did his PhD thesis entitled ‘Synthesis  and Structural Studies of Some new Nitrogen Containing Heterocyclic,” under the guidance of    Dr B Narayana,  Professor in  Chemistry and Registrar (Evaluation) of Mangalore University. Both received their doctorate degrees at the hands of  ISRO Chairman Dr Radhakrishnan   and Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. T.C. Shivashankera Murthy during the 32nd convocation of Mangalore University held on February 24.

Accolades : The achievements of the two brothers have won them accolades. Both had their primary education at St Rita Primary School at Vittal followed by college education at Vittal Pre-University College and St Philomena College, Puttur. Both   have secured distinction throughout their academic career. They did their M.Sc in Mangalore University. If Ismail, the eldest of the two opted for Physics, Samshuddin chose Chemistry. Both have come out in flying colours even in M.Sc.

During his research period, Ismail has presented  research papers at various universities sin India and also in Singapore. He has also authored several articles  and has the credit of launching  Namma Vittla, a web portal dedicated to news from Vittal.

Even Samshuddin has several research articles  published in international journals and  he has even been appointed as Chief Editor of  Journal of Single Molecule Research  of USA.

The younger generation need to derive inspiration from these two dedicated professors.
