Strong winds uproot two huge trees near Maani -Traffic disrupted

Bantwal: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds uprooted two huge trees  resulting in disruption of traffic for over three hours at Maani  on the Mangalore-Bangalore National Highway on July 21, Sunday. The trees also damaged as many as seven electric poles  in the area.

 

The incident took place right in front of the Darul Irshadi Education Centre at Maani. Finally, member of the general public themselves assisted in cutting the tree and shifting the logs to the roadside to enable free vehicular movement.

Local residents said the two trees were nearly half a century old. The incident  left several people traveling on the Mangalore –Bangalore and the Mangalore- Puttur road stranded for over three hours. Power supply was also  cut off due to the damage caused to electric poles. Vittal police and MESCOM officials visited the spot.

The strong winds  in Maani area on Sunday have also uprooted several trees in other nearby places while also damaging many more electric poles.
