
Mangaluru: Mangaluru Mayor K Bhaskar Moliy, on June 27, promised strict action against residential buildings that let rainwater into the underground sewage water drains in the city.
Addressing a press meet at his office here, the mayor said, “It has come to our notice that some residential buildings are letting rainwater directly into the sewage drain. MCC has already started a survey and it will be completed within 15 days. We will take proper action as per the findings of the survey report.”
Year-2022 deadline for Smart City
“Under smart city programme, there are 66 projects in the city. All the 66 projects will materialise by the end of March in 2022”, Mayor said.
As many as four works under the Smart City project have started till now. These include construction of the clock tower and smart bus shelters at Akashabhavana and Kavoor; a smart road from the clock tower to A B Shetty circle and a smart drainage facility at Nelikai Road, Bhaskar informed.
Mayor also clarified on the structure of the company formed to implement Smart City Project. The city corporation has formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under Companies Act. Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner will be the Managing Director of this SPV. The Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Secretary will be the chairman of the SPV. Of the 15 directors of the SPV, four will be MCC corporators including the Mayor, KUIDFC Managing Director, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada and Minister for Urban Development.
“The union and state governments have released Rs 215 Crore out of which the MCC has spent Rs 3.87 Crore for the Smart City project”, Bhaskar said.
Releasing the progress made under AMRUTH scheme, the mayor said that using the Rs 185.52 Crore released by the central government, the MCC had undertaken the development works of four parks in the city at Kunjathbail, Kadri, Hosabettu and Katipalla with the allocation of Rs 2 Crore.
Deputy Mayor Muhammed Kunjathbail, corporators Shashidar Hegde, Praveen Chandra Alva and others were present.
