Commissioner confirms arrival of idols via courier  

Mangalore : Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar  who convened a press meet at his office here on November 6, Wednesday, has confirmed the arrival of stolen idols from the Siddantha Darshana Mandir, through courier.

He said all the 12 idols received via courier have been verified and  added that with this all the stolen idols as mentioned in the FIR have been recovered.

Stating that the idols were couriered from Chattisgarh, the Commissioner said “Currently we are investigating about the source from where the idols were couriered to my office.”

Mangalore:  There has been a surprise twist to the Siddantha Darshana Mandir burglary case of Moodbidri. If the police investigating the case have been moving heaven and earth to track down the stolen antique idols, twelve of them are now back, safely couriered and sent to the Mangalore Police Commissioner’s Office through a special parcel. It is learnt, the parcel were sent from Raipur in Chattisgarh.

The Moodbidri Jain Mutt seer has inspected the idols and has confirmed that they were the ones that were stolen from the Basadi. The idols were inspected by the seer in the presence of  Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Karbikar, investigating officer SP Ravi Kumar, Moodbidri inspector Anantha Padmanabha, and Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar.

Those idols which are now back are that  of Arhanatha made out of crystalline gem, Chandraprabha Swami, Parshwanatha, Mallinatha Siddaparameshti Chandraprabha Swami of Diamond, Munisuvratha Swami made of crystalline, Kacchapanna Arahanta Parameshti, Munisuvratha made out of Lapis, Arahanta of Lapis. Some broken pieces of idols and other valuables too have been received through courier.

If the police had recovered three idols earlier, they had also found gold ingots which were reportedly got after melting some of the stolen idols. There were even rumours that the stolen idols had been sold  in Bangkok  for a whopping amount.
