Smart City entry: City representatives celebrate Mangaluru’s potential

Mangaluru: It is indeed a news for all of the Mangaloreans to be proud of after the city was selected to become a Smart City. The representatives of Mangaluru have expressed how delighted they are to hear that their city will be one of the very few cities to be called a Smart City.

The Central Government had announced the third list of smart cities on Tuesday September 20. Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor, Harinath said that he is glad to see Mangaluru in the list of smart cities.

On hearing the good news, Harinath made sure that every individual in the city knows. He called for a press meet in Mangaluru City Corporation and conveyed this regards to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister of Karnataka, the MPs, MLAs, District in-charge minister and the other official authorities for being the backbone for Mangaluru to be chosen as one of the 27 smart cities.

“There are quite a number of steps that had been taken by the MCC to make Mangaluru smart. To name some of them, the implementation of plastic-free initiative, renovated and cleaned public toilet facilities and many other steps have been enacted,”he said. Harinath also requested the help and support of all the officials to make Mangaluru one of the best cities of the Country.

 MCC Commissioner Nazeer expressed his happiness in Mangaluru being selected as a smart city in the second phase and said, “A proposal of Rs. 2000 Crore had be included to develop the various water fronts, markets, district hospital, a solar farm on an island near Bunder and the old port. A special committee will be formed as a next step to help in smart city project implementation. Kadri or Nanthoor and Lalbagh will see two E-toilets in order to maintain cleanliness.”

MLA and MP congratulate

Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo said, “I want to thank all the state and central representatives, the people of Mangluru and the authorities who have made this possible. It gives me immense pleasure to announce that our city has been chosen for the smart city project. Development of infrastructure and receiving more investors in the city will be possible and make the various industries develop too. More employment opportunity will be made available by the overall development and the people will be employed in the city and they do not have to go elsewhere.”

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “Thanks to PM Narendra Modi and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu for promising to select Mangaluru as one of the smart cities. I want to congratulate all the leaders of the city for the efforts put in by them to make this happen. The city would have been selected in the first phase but due to certain shortcomings, it did not. But this time, it gives me immense pleasure to say that Mangalore showed that it does have the potential.”
