Bantwal : The students of the Munnur Government School at Kuttar in Mangalore taluk are suffering for no fault of theirs. The heavy rains that have been lashing the region since the past couple of days  have made them  spend the whole day in school by covering their noses. And of course, they have no option, for such is the stink  in the place.

The slushy water from the nearby overflowing drainage has   entered the school compound and play ground along with  rotten wastes  leaving an  unbearable stench. What is more alarming is that the filthy water  has reached right to the door step of the room where the mid-day meal is being prepared. On June 11, Wednesday the students spent the entire day in school with hands closing their nose.

Though the Gram Panchayat President Abdul Rahman and Panchayat Development Officer  visited the school on Wednesday following a complaint by the school authorities, no step has been taken until evening  to solve the problem. By evening, the students had to leave the school from the rear gate.

Pavan, President of the School’s Child Rights Association and other members have already appealed to the Panchayat to act fast. They have now planned to lodge a complaint to Health Minister UT Khader if no solution was found to the problem by June 12, Thursday afternoon.
